Heavens Gate is great!

With an awesome landscape and breathtaking view every morning the farm hosts many different animals like horses, lamas, donkeys, dogs, goats and many more, who appreciate and enjoy your help and made me always feel happy. (beside Coco the lama, who spit at me (; ) The work is different every day. After our daily chores I worked with the horses or did wood work or painting or carpentry or fencing and many more things. Brigitte and Al are great hosts, taking care about every volunteer. We had BBQ together, talked in the tipi, did a spontaneous trip to Lethbridge and made an awesome and funny fotoshoot with the horses. We even made a one day trip to Waterton National Park and saw two bears. Both, Brigitte und Al are willing to show and teach your many things if your are interested in learning. The accommodation is pretty nice, just be mentally prepared for an outhouse and a cold creek shower and you will adapt to it pretty fast. Especially the showers in the creek I will miss. Work is on weekdays 9am to 4pm with one hour break, sometimes more and sometimes less. Weekends are off, just the daily chores have to be done. Important to know for volunteers arriving with Greyhound in Pincher Creek in the night: it's easier and much cheaper to spend the last hours of the night in the hotel lobby of the Super 8 or Ramada until you get picked up. Just go in there and ask, its a short walk from the Greyhound station. Thanks a lot to Brigitte and Al and all the great volunteers I met for the great time in Heavens Gate! I had a lot of fun and made many great experiences and learned things I will remember my whole life. Gonna miss you and the animals a lot, especially Sunshine, Sunny and Lucy. XOXO Kate
