I've been in Canada for almost 8 months and I absolutely love it. I've lived in the big cities like Toronto and learnt to ski in the winter. The next part of my journey is in Alberta, where I am currently working on an animal sanctuary called Heaven's Gates, which is not a religious cult, as my sister feared.
It is an amazing place filled with beautiful animals and people, as well as the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, which I wake up to everyday.
I am Wwoofing here, which means I work here and in return I get my food and accommodation taken care of. The rest of the wwoofers, as were known, live in boys and girls cabins and we also have a living room area full of VHS like Die Hard and Indiana Jones.
There are 8 of us at the moment, as well as Brigitte and Al who run the sanctuary. Every day is different here and it's a nice change from the hectic London life that I was used to in the UK. So far I have built fences, roofs, ridden horses in the Rocky Mountains, slept in a tipi, seen grizzly bears close up and made some amazing friends.
I would recommend wwoofing to everyone but in particular young people who want to do something useful, whilst still having loads of fun away from the city.
